AIA • ARCHITECTURE AND PRECAST CONCRETE SEMINAR (TWO-PART COURSE)

Thursday, Feb. 18 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

PART 1: ARCHITECTURE AND PRECAST: AMAZING POSSIBILITIES (1.0 LU)

Claude Goguen, P.E., LEED AP, NPCA

This is an introductory session devoted to addressing the fundamentals of the precasting process. Participants will explore the various benefits of precast concrete – cost savings, durability, versatility, aesthetics and more – from the perspective of the architect, owner and contractor. Course attendees will also discuss the common architectural applications of precast, including special finishes, colors and more. AIA members completing this session will earn 1.0 Learning Unit.

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Determine how hydrological analysis and hydraulic properties can affect the design of a precast storm inlet system, including both its functional abilities and environmental considerations
  • Define the use of various grating and curb openings, and stormwater filter systems and how they affect the design of the precast storm inlet
  • Identify additional precast products including precast wingwalls, concrete pipe, box culverts and concrete detention chambers that will aid structural and hydraulic requirements
