Immigration compliance is an essential component of due diligence in today's global economy. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) vigorously enforces an employer's obligation to check the employment eligibility of all new hires. Employers must verify the identity and employment eligibility of anyone to be hired by completing the Employment Eligibility Verification Form (I-9). Failure to consider the immigration issues involved in a hiring transaction can expose your organization to liability for immigration non-compliance. Multi-disciplinary, comprehensive strategies will be presented to comply with immigration hiring requirements and to provide companies with tools to deal with federal investigations, state and local enforcement actions, discrimination allegations and the news media.
At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Develop effective internal policies with respect to immigration for individuals responsible for hiring
- Create an immigration due diligence process for hiring individuals
- Apply best practices for employee verification and managing I-9 forms
