AT1 • SCC: FLOWABLE CONCRETE ON STEROIDS

Friday, Feb. 19 7:00 a.m. - 8:45 a.m.

Bill Ciggelakis P.E., PSI

This course will present the essentials of proportioning, mixing and placing self-consolidating concrete. SCC offers an improved quality product with reduced labor costs because there is no need for vibration. Labor is also reduced because there is no need for rubbed concrete surface finishing of the final product. An excellent surface finish can be achieved with SCC because of the cohesive nature of the mix, enabling it to consolidate around congested reinforcing and to pass through narrow passages without segregating. Attendees will learn the essentials of proportioning SCC, how to quantify good quality characteristics of SCC, and the best practices associated with placing SCC.

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize characteristics of SCC
  • List the benefits of SCC
  • Differentiate between positive and negative actions associated with placing SCC
